Our Mission

The mission of Literacy Volunteers of Kennebec is to improve reading, writing and related literacy skills of adults so each individual may reach their potential, and to promote and advocate for literacy.

The funds support adult literacy programs while promoting a love for language and learning. This event brings the community together, raising awareness about literacy challenges and inspiring participants to engage with words in a fun and meaningful way.

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library of Kennebec County

As the world’s leading program for giving books to young children, the Imagination Library has proven its impact through years of remarkable achievements. Whether the invaluable time spent reading with a child, or the effects on early childhood literacy factors that have lifelong effects, the Imagination Library has a far-reaching spectrum of impact from both the measurable to the immeasurable.

Peter Townsend Memorial Literacy Scholarship

Literacy Volunteers of Kennebec (LVK) is pleased to offer a Literacy Scholarship to eligible seniors graduating in 2025. Students applying are asked to submit an essay/poem, video, or original artwork that depicts the following theme: As you have come of age in the digital world of communication and learning, consider and discuss or express the importance of intellectual development through reading, including printed materials.
